The Ruatoria aerodrome (NZRR) is located one (1) nm northwest of Ruatoria township. It is nestled near Hikurangi mountain deep in the heart of Ngati Porou country.
On airfield, parking is available for light aircraft (up to 100 aircraft). Fuel (avgas) will be available to purchase at the aerodrome and 24-hour security will be provided for visiting aircraft. Pilots are advised to bring their own pickets. There are no pickets available at the aerodrome.
Landing charges will be waived for Pilots who use Te Reo Maori correctly in their RTF communications. E.g. the correct pronunciation of Maori place names like Ruatoria, Tikitiki, Te Puia etc. Pilots who do not comply will be requested to make a koha after landing. The goal is for Pilots to pronounce Maori place names correctly in RTF communications. On landing, aircraft must follow a marked quadbike to an area where they will be marshalled to park. Ruatoria is an uncontrolled aerodrome therefore unattended aerodrome procedures apply.
For the public entry is by koha and carparking is available. No animals are permitted on the aerodrome and the public must remain behind the barriers at all times and must not enter the runway area. Food and beverages will be available for purchase. Local entertainment will be provided and Static displays will be on offer. Public toilets, Police, FENZ and First responders will be on site for the duration of the event. The operation of drones at the aerodrome is strictly prohibited.
